Qualifying cut-off only. The admission (closing) cut-off for a specific college is always higher and is decided round by round during counselling.
NEET UG is the single national entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses in every government, private and deemed medical college in India. Around 20–23 lakh candidates appear each year for roughly 1.37 lakh MBBS seats.
Clearing the qualifying percentile only makes you eligible to register for counselling. Whether you get a seat depends on the closing rank of each college in each round — which is why a realistic, rank-matched choice list matters far more than the qualifying score itself.
All India Quota (15%), deemed and central university seats are allotted by the Medical Counselling Committee. State quota counselling runs in parallel through each state authority.

As per the NMC seat matrix for the 2026–27 session, there are 823 medical colleges offering 1,36,939 MBBS seats — 63,296 in government colleges and 73,643 in private and deemed institutions.
All India Quota covers 15% of government college seats and is allotted centrally by MCC, open to candidates from any state. The remaining 85% is state quota, allotted by your state's counselling authority and usually restricted to candidates with domicile in that state.
MCC conducts four rounds — Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (mop-up) and an online stray vacancy round. A seat allotted in the stray vacancy round cannot be surrendered, so choices in that round should be filled carefully.
